Thomas Jefferson wrote the original draft of the Declaration of Independence between June 11 and June 28, 1776.
Coincidentally, Thomas and John Adams (2nd President of USA) died on the 50th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence (July 4, 1826) of which both were part of the committee of five. Other members were Benjamin Franklin, Robert R Livington, and Roger Sherman.
Jefferson was an avid reader and had three libraries in his lifetime.
